Principal's Message

Hello Families of Hammerschmidt School,

It is an honor to serve as principal of this special school community. I began my career as an educator teaching fourth grade for 10 years, including eight years at Madison Elementary School in District 44, before stepping into the principalship. District 44 has been my professional home since 1999, and I am grateful to now be in my second tenure as principal of Hammerschmidt.

One of WHS’s greatest strengths is the strong and consistent partnership among our students, staff, families, and community. Together, we work toward one shared outcome:

Every student is known, supported, challenged, and recognized for growth as a learner, leader, and friend.

Our 2026–2027 school theme, “Hammerschmidt Stars Shine Bright, Brighter, Brightest!”, reflects that commitment. Every Hammerschmidt student is a star with unique strengths and possibilities. Our goal is to celebrate where students are, help them continue to grow, and recognize their progress along the way.

The theme was inspired in part by Chicago Bears Coach Ben Johnson’s “Good, Better, Best” message about continuous improvement. As someone who grew up in Wisconsin and still cheers for the Green Bay Packers, borrowing inspiration from the Bears was unexpected—but the message fits our Stars perfectly!

I am grateful for the continued support and partnership of our Hammerschmidt community. Together, we will help every student shine Bright, Brighter, and Brightest!

Respectfully,

David J. Danielski
