Hammerschmidt Highlights

Hammerschmidt H.E.R.O. Days

The WHS School Theme for this year is:

"Be a Hammerschmidt H.E.R.O.!"

Our quest this year is to help our Hammerschmidt students become the heroes in their own story! In addition to helping our students be the best they can be with respect to academic growth, we will focus on the the following four characteristics:

H- Helpful

E- Empathetic

R- Responsible

O - Original

On each of our D44 Early Release Days we will engage our Hammerschmidt Students in hands-on activities centered on each of the H.E.R.O. qualities.

S.T.A.R. Constellations

Strong Team, Awesome Relationships

WHS's approxiamtely 420 students have been randomly divided into 30 grops. Each group of about 10-12 students ranges from Kindergarten to 5th grade. Every group is led by a WHS staff member. These S.T.A.R. groups meet once a month for 30 minutes. Classroom teachers do not have any of their own students in their S.T.A.R. group, giving every WHS student one other adult to connect with.

The purpose of this program is to build collective responsibility for our students and connect each and every student with an additional caring adult. Monthly lessons focus on team building activities and social emotional competencies. Over the years, the group stays the same, except for the exiting of our graduating 5th graders, and the welcoming of our incoming Kindergarteners. This format allows us to really get to know the students in our group throughout their entire journey at Hammerschmidt.
